Details
A vivid purple in the glass, this is highly aromatic from the get go, with a wash of sweet forest berries, intermixed with black olive, pepper, a touch of charcoal and some faint allspice. The perfume is quite wonderful - this is really a different take on the richness of the Barossa. It doesn't want for power though, with rich waves of fruit continuing in harmony with fine tannins and very gentle oak spice. Great drinking.
Yelland & Papps doesn't quite fit the mould of the traditional Barossa Valley estate. For starters, they've only been around since 2005. Whilst 15 years is pretty solid going in our book, the Barossa is host to famous family names that date back to the late 1800s, so in that sense they are very much newcomers! That hasn't stopped them establishing their family name as one to watch out for, with a suite of wines built for the modern Australian palate. Owners Michael and Susan Papps own a small vineyard on the valley floor, outside the town of Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. In the winery there a focus on using a lot of whole bunch fermentation, no filtration, larger format oak and a minimum of mucking around. All the wines are wild fermented, unfined, vegan friendly and the sense of deliciousness is writ large across the range. Whilst not blessed with the history of some of their neighbours, they have been blessed with the opportunity to own a piece of local history, in the form of their own estate. They respect and cherish this history, and their wines certainly do them proud.

Pairing guide
The long, deep, and seductive flavours of forest fruits in this beautiful Shiraz make it a perfect pairing for some seriously delicious dishes. Almost any dark meat served with a berry or fruit sauce, glaze, or garnish is going to really hit the spot - we’re talking Moroccan lamb with prunes or apricots, duck served with plums or berries, or venison with a forest fruit jus… sheer perfection! It’s also going to be delicious with traditional Mexican dishes with just a hint of dark chocolate, chocolate truffles, and blue cheese or mature cheddar. Nice!
