Details
This is the first release of this wine - Little Shiny. A wonderful melange of the two vineyards that James owns, with a little bit of fruit bought from a neighbour. Floral, lifted and juicy, this is made with some whole bunches, which add a wild spiciness to the wine. Lots of crushed cherry, succulent raspberry and a touch of white pepper, with supple tannins and a medium body to finish.

Shiny Wine is a relatively recent addition to the Tasmanian wine scene, and is already making waves. Based in the Tamar Valley, these handcrafted wines are produced by James 'Shiny' Scott. Shiny is a second generation Tasmanian winemaker who started in the wine industry at just 18 years of age! He studied in Adelaide before setting off around the world and gaining valuable winemaking experience working in Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, California, Bordeaux, and New Zealand. These days he is happily back in his home state, producing the types of cool climate wines that he is so passionate about. Shiny Wine focuses on producing minimal intervention wines, that let the Tasmanian vineyards and varieties speak for themselves. All the wines are handmade, bottled and labelled by Shiny and his mates. The focus so far has been on Syrah, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, with a focus on minerality and zestiness, rather than an abundance of fruit. The wines are floral, expressive and elegant, and have the acidity to last the long haul. This is a label to keep an eye on for the future.

Pairing guide
Made with minimal intervention, this Tassie Pinot Noir really highlights the quality of the terroir that’s making Tasmanian viticulture the talk of the wine world right now. Shiny Wine’s beautifully balanced and juicy Pinot is a fantastic pairing for lamb - there’s something about fattier meats and Pinot Noir that really work well together - and especially slow-cooked lamb stews or roasted leg of lamb with a rich and savoury sauce. However, we also really love this wine with rare tuna steak, bean stews, and braised beef, as well as anything made with beets or black lentils.

Wine region
Tamar Valley, Australia
The Tamar Valley, located on the banks that run along the Tamar river on the northern coast of Tasmania, is one of Tasmania’s oldest wine-growing areas. Its cool climate moderated by the river makes it perfect for growing high-quality grapes and producing premium wines. In particular, the region has built a very high reputation for its Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Sparkling wines which are giving some of the best of Burgundy and Champagne a run for their money. The secret is out, a region that was once humbly flying under the radar is now producing wines that are coveted by wine lovers all around the world.
