Details
A very succulent, bracing Fiano; still youthful but with plenty of deliciousness already! The vineyard was previously Riesling, but was changed to Fiano a couple of years ago, and the wine shows some of the drive and zip that you might associate with Riesling! Lots of pear, lime and grapefruit, some juicy orange peel and a crunchy finish.

Matriarch and Rogue, a six year old wine brand based in the Clare Valley, is the brainchild of winemaker Marnie Roberts. After having made a wine for her Grandma's birthday in 2013, she launched the label with Sangiovese and Tempranillo the following vintage. Since then an experimental approach has been top of mind, with a suite of wines produced from the lesser-known varieties like Nero d'Avola, Fiano and Sangiovese. This breadth of mind is admirable not only for its scope, but its success so far. Named after 5 sisters who lead the family, along with a mention for the husbands who, in their own way, were scallywags (Rogue) but loving! The focus is really on the Clare Valley, but there are a couple of wines from the Riverland as well. Marnie's skills in unearthing a range of varieties from the Clare region is quite special - traditionally its a wine region known for a handful of styles, but he inquisitive mind has introduced many to a host of different varieties, woven together under the Matriarch & Rogue label.

Pairing guide
Ah, Fiano. Let us count the ways we love thee! All that lovely acidity and brightness makes this classic wine style work brilliantly with some seriously tempting dishes, and when the sun’s out, it’s one we reach for time after time. The tartness of this wine makes it a great pairing for creamy sauces and deep fried foods, and it’s also going to pair beautifully with grilled seafood of almost every type imaginable. It’s a surprisingly good wine for tomato-based dishes, and is equally lovely with a crisp green salad. Perfect!
