Details
The Kracher name is synonymous with the highest quality sweet wines, but they also make a few, rarer, dry wines. This Pinot Gris shows that the estate has skills across all styles - the wines are remarkably consistent and of excellent value. This all comes from the home vineyards near Lake Neusiedl, in Burgenland in central eastern Austria. It is fermented and aged in stainless steel, and shows remarkable freshness. It has a beautiful aroma of white plum and red apple skin, and then is very precise and intense on the palate. Full-bodied, elegant and very aromatic. Great stuff.
In the late 1980s and up to his early death in 2007, Alois Kracher handcrafted some of the greatest noble sweet wines of the world. His wines became legends and were often presented along with the finest sweet wines from around the world. In recent times, Alois’s son Gerhard Kracher has managed to maintain the extremely high level of quality. There are no secrets to the production of their amazing range from the region of the Seewinkel, the corner (winkel) of Austria to the east of Lake Neusiedl, just an hour’s drive from Vienna. Each year, the recipe remains the same, driven by a relentless attention to detail. In the cellar, each individual parcel of grapes is vinified separately, There is a focus on high natural acidity and sulphur use is kept to a minimum. These are premium wines, not only in Austria, but across the world. Their focus and energy is something to be admired, and they stand toe to toe with the great wines of the world.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria
Burgenland is a wine region in eastern Austria, known for producing high-quality red wines from local grape varieties like Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent and Zweigelt. It is also renowned for its sweet wines, particularly Trockenbeerenauslese. The region has a unique climate, with a combination of warm summers and cool winters, allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly. The soils in Burgenland are diverse, ranging from slate to gravel, and provide the wines with distinct characteristics and complexity. Many small, traditional wineries dot the region, producing limited quantities of wine that are highly sought after by wine enthusiasts.
