Feast and Vine is a such a run-away success story in the South African wine scene. It's a wine owned by the trail-blazers at Mount Rozier Estate, a winery that is led by experienced winemakers and grape growers committed to being environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. There's a deep respect for the surrounding wildlife and native environment, which is easy to see in the low-input farming practices and move towards total solar power. The winemaking team, led by veteran Leon Esterhuizen, are strongly focussed on the idea of translating the South Africa terroir into delicious wines that are true representations of their environment. The estates have various vineyard sites, across a range of altitudes and aspects, combining them to create wines of texture and complexity. Only natural pesticides are used, to help retain the areas incredible biodiversity, and there are large areas that remain unplanted, in order to encourage natural birdlife and indigenous plant species to thrive! On top of all of this, rigorous pruning of the vineyards ensures very low yields, meaning those grapes that make it through the season are jam-packed with flavour! The wines from Feast & Vine go from strength to strength, and they are a name to watch in the future. A serious and deep Cabernet Sauvignon from the south-western corner of South Africa. Pairing guide
A bottle of fine Cabernet with your dinner is a beautiful thing, and this gorgeous example from Feast & Vine ticks all the right boxes very nicely indeed! While this wine is going to pair very well with both aubergines and wild mushrooms, it is - at heart - a real meat lover’s vino, and it calls out to be paired with rare steak, pork belly, beef stews, and classic French bistro dishes like cassoulet and tartare. It’s also a top choice for all your barbecue favourites, and is going to be very happy alongside a homemade burger, short ribs, or any kind of game, too.
