Details
This is a classic Mendoza Malbec, based on rich fruit. On the nose, there are elegant aromas of blackcurrants, fresh plums, dried figs and vanilla. It’s plump and soft on the palate, with cassis and coffee notes, complimented by refreshing acidity. Richly textured and full bodied.
Arido is a winery in the middle of a revolution, in more than one sense. On the one hand the macro - the entire wine industry of Argentina is changing, with smaller new wineries popping up and the bigger ones taking a long, hard look at themselves and doubling down on their vineyard work and commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. On the micro level, the winery itself is changing, releasing wines from their own newly certified organic vineyards, where in the past the approach was far more classic. There's change in the wind, and it's blowing this way! The vineyard are located at between 600 and 750 meters above sea level, on a landscape marked by canyons and ridges, and framed by the stunning Andean range that endows it with a special beauty. Its alluvial, stony soils are irrigated by the Mendoza River waters. Warm and sunny days give way to cool nights. The terroir expresses itself through vines and not the other way round. The vines at Arido (whose name reflects the harshness of the environment) have found their happy place, and quality has never been better.

Pairing guide
This Malbec from Arido doesn’t shy away from making a bold impact on the taste buds, and it’s sure to impress with its ability to stand up to some seriously punchy flavours when it comes to food pairing. The obvious pairing for Malbec is steak - served with a deeply savoury peppercorn sauce or a spritely chimichurri - but realistically, any charred or barbecued red meat will do the job perfectly. Corn dishes, such as polenta, tend to be a great match, as do Creole recipes, stuffed mushrooms, smoky tofu or seitan dishes, and combinations of eggplant and strong cheese. Malbec also loves a bit of paprika, so be sure to look out for rustic Spanish and Eastern European pairings for this wine, too!
