Details
A true multicultural blend of varieties in this intriguing and delicious red, featuring Dolcetto, Shiraz, Lagrein and Tempranillo. A complex combination of sweet fruit and savoury nuances, it boasts black cherry & plum flavours layering vanilla and spice, with a broad and expansive palate and creamy texture, finishing with a sweet and sour ‘agrodolce’ tang and light dusty tannins. Delicious!

The Limestone Coast region of South Australia extends inwards towards the Victorian border. At one of the inland outskirts is the township of Mundulla, near which the Wirrega vineyards sit. Over a million years ago this region was once an inland sea! After a series of ice ages, the sea contracted, leaving a unique geological profile - a limestone base with soil over the top. For the past 22 years Wirrega Vineyards has provided top quality fruit for some of Australia’s most iconic wine brands. With the launch in 2015 of the Wirrega Vineyards wine label, now those wines have a place to shine. ‘Wirrega’ was the name of an Aboriginal clan comprising 8 or so groups of the Jackegilbrab tribe. They inhabited the district, living sustainably on the bountiful land that grows huge gum trees. Earlier farmers cleared most of these trees, but they now flourish again, surrounded by vines. The vineyards are overseen by South Australian winemaking legend Geoff Hardy, who has owned the property for over 25 years. The warm dry days and very cold nights in the region help the fruit to ripen slowly and steadily, ensuring excellent natural acid, combined with full varietal characteristics and soft tannin structures.

Pairing guide
We can’t help but get excited by creative ‘field blend’ wines such as this one from Wirrega, which brings together Dolcetto, Shiraz, Tempranillo and more, resulting in a red wine that’s way beyond the sum of its parts. It’s a beautiful bottle for food pairing adventures, and will match up very well with hearty Italian-style dishes of meat or vegetable lasagna, homemade meatballs, spaghetti bolognese and any kind of charcuterie. Eggplant and chickpea dishes will work very well, as will traditional French and Italian stews of beef, chicken, lamb or pork. Amatriciana, green olive tapas dishes and anything with roast tomatoes will also hit the high notes.

Wine region
South Australia, Australia
South Australia is a wide and varied state when it comes to wine production. From the coastal regions of Limestone Coast and McLaren Vale, to the warmer inland valleys of Barossa and Eden, to the flats of Langhorne Creek, there's a range of terroirs and temperatures across this wide brown land. As a result, wines labelled with only South Australia can display a range of flavours! The state is probably best known for Shiraz, Grenache and Cab Sav in reds, and Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay in white. Whatever your flavour, there's plenty to explore!
