Details
This light red is perfect for a spell in the fridge! An equal blend of Grenache and Sangiovese it tastes like a red fruit riot! Think pomegranate, red cherry, and raspberry in abundance but still light and juicy. It is gently spicy, in a lovely white pepper kind of way. Plenty of acidity balances out a touch of juicy fruit sweetness and drinkability is sky high!
Watkins wine is a family affair. Started by David and Ros Watkins, back in the mid 90s, Watkins Wine has moved from a beacon of quality in the Langhorne Creek region to recently setting up shop in the Adelaide Hills. With this move comes a fresh outlook, not to mention some fresh packaging on the wines! These days, there's more of the influence of the offspring - Sam, Ben and Jo. Covering winemaking, Accounting and Marketing between them, they offer the ideal 'triple threat' of skills to take this family business to the next level. With a wide range of varieties planted across the two regions, and Sam's winemaking background that covers a host of different wine regions in 3 different countries, there's ample scope for inspiration and innovation. For now, the aim is to coax the best flavours possible from their grapes, but this trio has an eye on the future, so keep your eyes peeled and your tastebuds ready for what Watkins does next!

Pairing guide
Watkins winery never lets us down with their beautifully-crafted produce, and this lighter red blend has the boundless versatility that makes it a real winner when it comes to food pairing. Obvious pairings include grilled chicken thighs, lamb chops and steak salads, but it’s also going to be great with earthier flavours like green lentils, beetroot and black beans. Tuna steak - especially if cooked with a sesame and soy crust - will work well, as will brown rice dishes, mushroom pasta sauces and barbecued sausages. Fabulous!
