Details
A really complex rosé here, with some extra texture and colour. Made from a blend of local varieties Spätburgunder, Lemberger and St.Laurent (all of which are fairly uncommon in Australia!), it offers up some lovely scents of ripe strawberry, lychee and rose petal. The palate has a whisper of fruitiness, but finishes clean and fresh.
The Von Winning Estate is a proudly historical one - founded in 1849 and reaching peak production in the early 1900s. In more recent times however, it fell into disrepair, before being reinvigorated in 2007. The new era of success for Von Winning has now arrived, helmed by expert winemaker Stephan Attmann. The winery is located in the Pfalz region, in the southwest of Germany, not far from the French border into Alsace. It is one of the warmer regions in the country, and produces powerful dry wines of great clarity and expression. A lot of the vigour of these wines is down to the old vines that they have access to, along with innovative plantings - often very close together. A hands-off approach is taken to the viticulture insofar as inputs are concerned - the work is totally sustainable, and the vineyards are healthy and vibrant because of it. The collection of wines, based on some scintillating Rieslings, are really special - full of character and power. Each vintage they seem to take on another dimension, and the potential of the vineyards seems infinite. A really complex rosé here, with some extra texture and colour. Pairing guide
German rosé wines are a real underrated treat, just waiting to be discovered by globe-trotting wine fans always on the lookout for something new! This beautiful blushing wine from Germany has plenty of bite and fascinating minerality, making it brilliantly versatile for a wide range of different dishes. It’ll pair particularly nicely with pork and veal (and you can keep it suitably Germanic by matching it up with schintzel or spatzle), but it’s also a great wine for salads featuring delicate pink meats, anchovies, or grilled vegetables. This is also a top-notch picnic wine, too, so feel free to experiment with charcuterie, pies, quiches, and cold pasta dishes as well!

Wine region

Pfalz, Germany
The Pfalz wine region is located in the southwestern part of Germany and is known for producing some of the best wines in the country. For the linguists, Pfalz is Latin for ‘palatium’ which means palace! Pfalz is home to glorious aromatic Riesling and moreish Müller-Thurgau whites, as well as a deep-coloured, quite complex red known as Dornfelder! There’s a long history of winemaking in Pfalz that dates back to the Roman era, the region is home to over 300 wine villages and produces a wide variety of wines. The region is known for being one of Germany’s warmest wine regions, sunny and ideal for modern viticulture. The Pfalz wine region is also known for its picturesque landscape, and mild climate thanks to the undulating slopes of the Palatinate Forest.
