Details
Sacred and profane, or just bold and beautiful? Perfumed, plummy and blue berried just like the label suggests, with a vivacious personality. Plenty of squished dark fruits, and a verve of acidity that hits as a fresh surf wave dumping a mouthful of tongue dominating sandy tannins. Strong, for sure, in an unashamedly bold and beautiful way.

The Vino Intrepido, is James Scarebrook, a communicator, wholesaler, retailer and now winemaker. From studying all facets of the wine industry over the years, he recently turned his hand to the making of the juice, and turns out he's a bit of a dab hand at it all. Whether it's down to his years of study or simply natural talent remains to be seen, but his first forays into winemaking over the past few years have yielded great results! After having spent time in Italy and developing a real passion for the food, wine and culture there, James works heavily with Italian grape varieties being grown in some amazing Victorian vineyards. James wants to capture the essence of drinkability and a sense of place, and to him this means intervening only when it will benefit the final product. If you've never heard of Sagrantino, we don't blame you. It is mostly only found in one teeny tiny spot in Italy, Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria. One of those rare red varieties to have colour in both the skin and the pulp, making it typically an intensely dark and tannic wine. It's made conservatively so as to preserve the inherent character of the variety. Let's spill the 'T' here... it's probably one of Australia's best Sagrantino's so far, and clearly has a bright future on the pre-cambrian soils of Heathcote.

Pairing guide
Sagrantino might not be the best known of red Italian varietals, but there’s no getting away from the fact that this wine is brilliantly food-friendly, and delicious with some of our absolute favourite dishes. It’s a gorgeous wine to pair with a homemade pizza, it works deliciously with Italian-American favourites like meatballs and spaghetti and meaty ravioli, and it’s ace with all kinds of lasagna dishes too. Braised meats and roast chicken and lamb will work with the bold tannins in the wine, and anything with truffle will be heaven on the palate.

Wine region
Heathcote, Australia
The Heathcote wine region is located in central Victoria and until the 1980’s it was broadly known as part of Bendigo. The region itself is famous for the ancient cambrian soils which date back 500-600 million years which characteristically have a rusty, iron colour and have good moisture retention which is ideal for this warm region. Heathcote is well suited to Shiraz and Grenache as well as newly introduced varieties like Fiano and Nero D’Avola.
