Details
What a fun wine! This delivers plush red-fruit generosity with lifted aromatic charm. Ripe strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry compote define the nose, supported by hints of cranberry, wild herbs, and warm earth. Subtle spice adds complexity, while Grenache’s hallmark softness creates a supple, rounded texture. It’s an elegant yet easy-drinking style that highlights purity of fruit, vibrancy, and finesse, perfect for anytime of day!

Vinifera is a proudly organic winery in the Mudgee region of NSW. Set up in 1994 by doctor Tony McKendry and his wife Debbie, they were drawn to the region's potential by the discovery that the local environment had striking parallels with Spain’s most famous wine growing region; Rioja. Thus, some of the first Tempranillo vines in Australia were planted along with Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon. The vineyard has continued to mature beautifully and now stretches across 12 hectares producing limited vintages including other striking Spanish reds. For years they have been ably assisted in the winery by Jacob Stein, part of the famous Mudgee winery Robert Stein. With Tony guiding the viticulture and overall style of the wines, and Jacob applying his local and international winemaking knowledge, they produce a range of wines that reflect the local land as well as being succulent and adaptable with food. A bit of a hidden gem Vinifera, but well worth seeking out!

Pairing guide
Grenache blends are famously food-friendly, and this 2024 expression is no exception. Its juicy red-fruit core and gentle spice make it perfect for Mediterranean and Iberian dishes such as lamb meatballs with mint, grilled chorizo, roasted vegetable paella, or patatas bravas. The wine’s vibrant acidity and fine tannins also pair beautifully with classic barbecue fare: chargrilled chicken, pork ribs with smoky rubs, or grilled halloumi with lemon and herbs. For pasta lovers, the wine complements tomato-based sauces, pesto variations, or ricotta-filled ravioli with sage butter. Its aromatic profile enhances herb-driven dishes, particularly those featuring rosemary, thyme, or oregano. Vegetarian pairings work especially well: think grilled portobello mushrooms, eggplant parmigiana, roasted beetroot salads, and chickpea dishes with paprika or cumin.
