Details
Jasper was a good boy who would run and greet you at the car and shepherd you into the cellar door, just like any good winery dog. Mark and Pippa at Vineyard 28 decided to make a wine honouring this good boy with a Sangiovese rosé. This is a lovely wine with a savoury start, blood orange and raspberry notes along with some crunchy acid.

Vineyard 28 is located on the drive from Perth to Margaret River along the Forest Highway, making it a perfect stop to whet the appetite for those making the trek down. Here you will find a delightful cellar door attached to the winery and family home where Mark and Pippa ply their craft. The vineyard gets its name from the name of one of several parrots that call their property home, the 28 Parrot or, for those budding bird watchers in the crowd, the Port Lincoln Parrot. Aside from the 28 parrots, a host of cockatoos and plenty of other native wildlife, you will find an abundance of Italian varieties that have made this vineyard home. Mark and Pippa have a passion for Piedmont varieties, so you will find Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and Nebbiolo here alongside a smattering of other varieties. To add to the wholesome factor, Pippa is a crafty quiltmaker and sells local artwork on the property.

Pairing guide
Bright, crisp, and effortlessly refreshing, Jasper Rosé bursts with strawberry, raspberry, and a hint of citrus zest, finishing dry and clean. It’s a perfect match for summer seafood like grilled prawns, salmon salad, or tuna carpaccio. It also shines with Mediterranean mezze, charcuterie, or a watermelon and feta salad. For something casual, try it with fish tacos, sushi, or a simple Margherita pizza. Serve well chilled for an easy, sunshine-ready pour.

Wine region
Geographe, Australia
Geographe is a wine region located in the South West region of Western Australia (40 minute’s drive Northeast of Margaret River). It has a Mediterranean-style climate with warm, dry summers and mild, winters, which is ideal for growing grapes. The soils are predominantly sandy loams, providing good drainage and nutrient levels for the vines, and some vineyards have access to the permanent water table 15m below. It is known for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz. Compared to nearby Margaret River, Cabernet Sauvignon from Geographe tends to have distinctly fine gain and lingering tannins. The region has seen a rapid growth of boutique producers in recent years, aided by its proximity to Geographe Bay, which is home to a world-class food and wine scene, but attractions like Busselton Jetty, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and gorgeous seascape panoramas.
