Details
Vinea Marson sources their Sangiovese from Heathcote and there is a beautiful note in Heathcote wines that shines through in this Sangiovese. The wine is aged for a couple of years before release by the winery so it is perfectly balanced with deep, red fruits, baking spices and tannins. A comfort wine if I have ever seen one that will handle your next tomato based pasta with ease.

Vinea Marson is one of the many family affairs that make wine so easy to fall in love with. Mario Marson and his wife Helen as well as their three daughters are all heavily involved in producing these small batch, Victorian wines. Mario is somewhat winemaking royalty in Australia after his time working at the prestigious Mount Mary winery in the Yarra Valley. Vinea Marson is an ode to Mario’s Italian heritage and more specifically, Friulian heritage. Mario’s daughter Madeleine has embedded herself into the winery as well and is also making her own wines under the Elm label. The winery focuses on scrumptious, get in quick while it’s available Proseccoas well as other classics like Nebbiolo and Sangiovese and the Friulian varieties like Friulano and Picolit. A secret squirrel has also informed us that they are working on adding some Refosco into the fold. The wines are lovingly made and released when they are entering their drinking window so idle hands don’t need to worry about any cellaring.

Pairing guide
A great bottle of Sangiovese is a welcome addition to any dining table, and this release from Vinea Marson is no exception. Like all Sangiovese, this one is perfect for pairing with tomato based dishes, especially slow-cooked ragu sauces, bolognese, puttanesca and other Italian classics. Red meat with pesto, aged parmesan, chicken thighs with beans and basil, lentil stews and barbecued pork or lamb are also excellent options, and vegetarians will love it with eggplant parmigiana or a Tuscan bean stew.

Wine region
Heathcote, Australia
The Heathcote wine region is located in central Victoria and until the 1980’s it was broadly known as part of Bendigo. The region itself is famous for the ancient cambrian soils which date back 500-600 million years which characteristically have a rusty, iron colour and have good moisture retention which is ideal for this warm region. Heathcote is well suited to Shiraz and Grenache as well as newly introduced varieties like Fiano and Nero D’Avola.
