Details
This delightful Burgundy is so delicious due to a pretty classic combination of vineyard and maker. Sourced from a plot of Pinot Noir vines that are now forty-five years old in Girardin's hometown of Santenay, winemaker Eric Germain deliberately takes the whole winemaking process slowly, with soft pressing and extended maturation in old oak all making for this wine that delights with its gracefulness and light. It tastes of cherries and bright red fruit with this delicate, mineral finesse and elegance. Silken red wine of beauty and light.

Vincent Girardin started young. As the 11th generation of Girardins to have produced wine in the commune of Santenay, he was destined to be a Burgundian winemaker. But in 1980, at the age of just 19, he struck out on his own with a 5ha plot he had inherited. Over the years, Girardin's holding grew to 22ha, and biodynamic methods were rolled out across the vineyards. While Girardin sold the business in 2012 to a long-time associate, his team of nine stayed on to create the famously silken wines that Girardin is known for. Indeed, it's the gracefulness that really drew us to these wines—they're not forceful, Shiraz-masquerading as Pinot Noir wines but instead feel smooth, supple, and balanced in a way that only Burgundy can master. Even the labels are simple and graceful.

Pairing guide
A good bottle of Burgundy wine is always a class act to serve when with family and friends, and this beautiful Pinot Noir is right up there with our absolute favourites. Effortlessly versatile, it’s a stunning wine to enjoy alongside slow-cooked beef and lamb dishes, hearty stews and casseroles, and vegetarian dishes featuring wild mushrooms, capsicums and grilled eggplant. Pasta dishes with smoked sausage or chorizo will be wonderful, and it’s also great with roast chicken and red wine gravy, ragu sauces, and even with seared tuna steaks with a sticky glaze and steamed greens.

Wine region
Burgundy, France
Burgundy is located east between Paris and the Swiss border and is known for producing some of the finest and most sought-after wines (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) in the world. The region can be divided into the following sub-regions from north to south: Chablis, Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise, and Mâconnais, with parts Beaujolais to the south now under consideration. Chablis is located north of the Côte d'Or and is known for its crisp, dry white wines made from Chardonnay, made without the influence of oak. Some of the best domaines in Chablis include William Fèvre and Christian Moreau. The Côte d'Or is the heart of the Burgundy wine region and is divided into two main areas: the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The Côte de Nuits is known for its red wines, while the Côte de Beaune is known for its white wines. The best domaines in the Côte d'Or include Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Domaine Georges Roumier! Mâconnais and often overlooked Côte Chalonnaise produces red and white wines. Some of the best domaines in these regions include Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils and Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard.
