Details
A gorgeously expressive, vibrant and very modern Grenache, with aromas of juicy red berries just like standing in a vat of grapes and squishing them with your own feet. It’s a light, drink-now style, fragrant and youthful, with acidity there too but in balance, and a tannin grip to finish on. Opens up gloriously in the glass which somehow empties in a flash. Weird that!
As with many great stories, Vanguardist was born of humble beginnings, harmonised over a table littered with empty bottles and laughs that rolled late into the evening; a relentless ‘fire in the belly’ that sent Michael Corbett bouncing across the equator, chasing international harvests for most of his adult life. Michael officially launched Vanguardist in South Australia in 2014, with two painstakingly-crafted, single vineyard expressions of Riesling and Grenache; two wines made from what Michael deemed to be the best varieties, grown in the best soils in the best sub-regions the state had to offer. Herein lies the ‘V’ obsession: an unwavering temperament that now finds Vanguardist wines amongst the most revered of Australia’s authentic small-batch wine producers. Years on, the Vanguardist focus has both broadened and deepened, illuminating new sites of intrigue with the same degree of captivation, while La Petite Vanguard reflects the unbound and experimental (and ever-so quaffable) side of Michael's character.

Pairing guide
Grenache is right up there with our favourite wine styles, and this beautiful bottle from Vanguardiste ticks all the right boxes with its juicy character and delicious fruit flavours. It’s a winner with vegan dishes of roast tomatoes, grilled eggplant and zucchini, wild mushrooms, portobello burgers and anything with leafy greens and a good serving of garlic or truffle. Smoked seitan and tofu in a rich tomato sauce, lentil and bean creations, and vegan pasta bakes will also hit the high notes.
