Details
Another winner from Brendan and Laura Carter of Unico Zelo, this Chardonnay is a blend of vineyards high up in the Adelaide Hills, and combines a fullish texture with racy acidity. Not quite as rich as in previous years, but with a really lovely smoky/flinty note that elevates the aromatics. Lots going on here - an intriguing and complete wine! No added yeast and a mixture of stainless steel and oak in the winery give the wine a slippery, creamy texture, without any overt heaviness. Some delicate whipped cream and lemon curd characters come through, backed up by white pear and daffodil. Very attractive, and as with all of the Harvest range from these do-gooders, half of the profits from the wine go straight back to the growers to help continue the strength of the vineyards.

Unico Zelo roughly translates to Unique Zeal / Energy, which goes a long way to describe the young gun wine making couple Laura and Brendan. At 25 years a piece, they have created one of the most innovative new wineries to come out of Australia in years. They are the envy of the old fuddy-duddy end of the wine making town, and we love them for it. Brendan's early passion for wine saw him jet off to France straight after school to see what it was like to work in a top notch winery. And it didn't disappoint. He headed home to skill-up his wine expertise and study viticulture in Adelaide. This is where he met Laura, and convinced her to focus her agriculture brains on the noblest crop... grapes. Their mission is to produce their favourite easy to drink Italian drops on Australian soil and make them accessible to the youth young Australian wine lovers. Pairing guide
When it comes to Aussie Christmas white wines, you can’t beat a great bottle of Chardonnay. This delightfully well-balanced Chardonnay from Unico Zelo is going to go really well with your Christmas turkey - if you’re having one - and will also pair very nicely with a roasted salmon dish, too. Both crab and prawns are going to match perfectly with this wine, and we can’t imagine many wines pairing better with a whole lobster soaked in melted butter and shared among friends. In fact, this is a real food-friendly wine that’s going to work well all throughout the summer and with all your seasonal favourites, so feel free to experiment and enjoy!

Wine region
Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
