Details
A juicy, fruity Nero d'Avola that doesn't completely forgo its roots in a search to become the new juicy red. If you love Pinot Noir but want to go a bit crazy, then this is for you. A mix of black and red fruits, supple and slurpy, with floral notes and some pepper. Lots to love.
Unico Zelo is a winery with attitude. From their bold and bodacious marketing campaigns and merchandise, to their deeply-flavoured wines inspired by some of the great, powerful wine regions of the world, they like to do things a bit differently. It comes as no surprise, then, that Unico Zelo have their home in the Adelaide Hills, quickly becoming the spiritual home of Australia’s more innovative and experimental wine scene, where they’ve established themselves as the confident newcomers on the scene with plenty to say. The philosophy of Unico Zelo is to show the world just how varied Australian wine can be - from the Adelaide Hills, to the Clare Valley, to the Riverland. They’ve selected an unusual and radical set of grape varietals with which to make their wines - a lot of southern Italian and Sicilian grapes are grown here, famed for their deep, punchy flavours which suit the new generation of wine drinkers, who want to enjoy powerful wines in an informal setting. A breath of fresh, Italian-inspired air, which is gaining a set of dedicated followers with every new release.

Pairing guide
Rich, intense, and packed full of dark fruit flavour, Nero d’Avola fully deserves its newfound reputation as a world-beating wine style. One of the reasons for its current success is due to the fact that it goes so incredibly well with the kind of rustic, meaty, street food dishes which are so popular right now; think meaty gyros wraps, burritos, or even pulled pork sandwiches. This is a real carnivore’s wine - it pairs brilliantly with pretty much every red meat dish you can think of, and is as happy alongside a hearty meat stew as it is next to a Sunday roast.

Wine region

Riverland, Australia
Located in the heart of South Australia, the Riverland wine region is a tropical paradise for wine lovers. The region was formerly known for its traditional wines, particularly Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Grenache as well as its abundance of sunshine and beautiful scenery. In the last few years it's added a raft of Mediterranean varieties to its charm - think Fiano and Nero d'Avola. The warm climate and fertile soils of the Riverland make it a perfect place for grape growing, and the wines produced there are bursting with flavour. So why not explore the wines of the Riverland and discover a new favourite?
