Details
Between Prosecco and Cava - let alone great Australian sparkling - we're really spoilt for choice when it comes to great fizz. This seriously fresh and appley, light and quite effortless Cava shows everything good about the style, too, with its hints of gentle nuttiness in among a field of apples, pears, and white flowers. You don't notice it at first, but there is a subtle creaminess from almost two years of ageing as well. Pretty and pretty damn delicious modern fizz.
The vineyards of Torreblanca’s property are situated in Penedès, on the outskirts of Barcelona, between the Mediterranean Sea in the east and the mountains of Montserrat in the west. It’s a family owned "finca" (or single vineyard) of 22 hectares, mostly planted to local varieties Xarel-lo, Macabeu and Parellada, with a few international interlopers. The native varieties comprise the blend for most Cava wines, and there is a real commitment to using the local varieties, as well as preserving the local traditions of winemaking. Winemaker Montse Nicolas and her family have owned the property for 8 years, and also own another esteemed Cava outfit, Grimau. The estate itself has a vinous production history which dates back to the 15th century, and the family has been involved for nearly a century. Their commitment to cava and the region is admirable, and the wines are truly authentic interpretations of the land.

Pairing guide
Gorgeously dry with an elegant array of fruit flavours, this classy Cava from Torreblanca showcases why Spain’s signature sparkling wine style is always up there with our all-time favourites. It’s properly versatile when it comes to food pairing - we reckon it’s best served with classic tapas including ham and cheese croquetas, patatas bravas and marinated anchovies, but will also be excellent with salty snacks like fried chickpeas or homemade spiced popcorn, nachos and loaded fries with plenty of cheese. Fish goujons, crispy chicken, fried rice and classic seafood dishes will also do the job perfectly.
