Details
The Toolangi 'Pauls Lane' range of wines takes its name from the location of Toolangi Vineyards in Pauls Lane, Dixons Creek, Yarra Valley. This wine is made exclusively from estate grown fruit, and is one of the wineries top wines.
This is a supple, detailed and elegant Shiraz that's all about floral prettiness and blackberry fruit.
It's undeniably Yarra Valley in its jubilant black fruits, spice and fruitiness, its silky tannins and its mouth-watering savouriness. An exercise in elegant restraint, the supple medium-bodied palate with a pure stream of juicy black fruits.
Just because it can be enjoyed now is no reason to dissuade you from cellaring as much as you drink!
You can’t talk about exceptional modern Australian wines without some mention of Yarra Valley. For a long time now, Yarra Valley has proven itself to be one of the world’s great wine regions, thanks to a combination of great soil quality, a tempered climate which allows for a long and gentle ripening season, and perhaps most importantly, a set of winemakers who know the land and have the vision to make it work for them. At Dixon’s Creek, next to Toolangi Forest, we find the winery of Toolangi Vineyards, which has been producing wines of unique character and quality since the mid 1990s. Garrie and Julie Hounsell, the managers of Toolangi Vineyards, fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening this estate, and quickly set about planting the finest vines they could get their hands on. Fast forward a couple of years, and they found themselves with small-yielding crops of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz vines - classic Australian varietals - alongside some other species, such as Viognier, to help keep things interesting. They quickly gained the attention of the wine press, who have delivered plenty of praise for their produce over the years, but they are always quick to remind their admirers that the real hard work is done not by themselves, but by the land they work on. Their vineyards benefit from the gentle slopes of Yarra Valley, and complex soils of clay and shale which give their wines their distinctive character. Pairing guide
This deeply-flavourful and characterful Shiraz from the ever-reliable Toolangi is a real meat-lover’s delight. It’s going to pair gorgeously well with pretty much any meat dish you throw at it; grilled pork chops, rare steaks, lamb shanks, sausages, veal, roast chicken and turkey, game… basically, if once had legs, this wine’s going to love it. However, it’s not all bad news for the veggies among you! This Shiraz is also a top-notch pairing for kale, broccoli, and other green veg, and it also loves roasted and grilled root vegetables and beans, too!
