Details
Q96 is the name of a single block on the Tomich Vineyard at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills that has always delivered the family's best Chardonnay grapes. What better name for their flagship whites? This smart Chadonnay is all about the layers, too - you smell it and think, 'Oh yes, this is going to be a big wine', with a nose that is all about apple pie and yellow peaches. But it tastes so much more refined and refreshing than that, with a crisp palate of lemony freshness. Clever!

The Tomich family hails from the Adriatic Coast in Croatia, where winemaking was a way of life. Jack Tomich Snr arrived in Australia in 1903 and brought a multitude of grape-growing and winemaking skills learnt from his forefathers. The family had always made their wine for home drinking and grew both sultanas and wine grapes after moving to the new irrigation settlement of Mildura in 1936. Jack’s son Ivan showed a real passion for wine and, by 1946, was producing wine and selling it to local farmers. Three generations of grape growers and winemakers later, the Tomich family now owns one of the best sites in the Adelaide Hills. They have kept their ancestral way of softly farming the land and are real believers in sustainable viticulture. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the champions here but don't miss the fantastic Adelaide Hills Shiraz.

Pairing guide
Bursting with flavour and freshness, this gorgeous Chardonnay sits just on the right side of luxuriance and brings no shortage of great food pairing options. We loved it with Middle Eastern salads and fish dishes, and can see it working brilliantly with chicken and preserved lemon tagines with couscous, too. It’s also excellent with roast poultry, vegetarian and Goan fish curries, richer seafood like scallops and mussels in cream sauce, and with buttery tagliatelle with plenty of cheese. Delicious!

Wine region
Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
