Details
The rosé from Andrew at The Wanderer is a 100% Shiraz rosé sourced from two vineyards in his home region of the Yarra Valley. The wine shows a delightful mix of red berries and creamy spice with some barrel fermentation which gives the wine a lovely rounded finish. Andrew has a hands off approach to winemaking which shows with a lovely textural drive as well.
The Wanderer is Andrew Marks who has spent a lifetime wandering through the Yarra Valley after his mum and dad founded Gembrook Hill wines in 1983. For Andrew, when his father, Ian, died in 2017 he became responsible for both Gembrook Hill and The Wanderer brands. With his own brand, there is a focus on high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the upper Yarra as well as a classic Yarra Rosé. For Andrew it is the balance between taking the reins of the family winery with a steadfast approach of producing classic varieties found in the region and producing exciting wines under his own label. Perhaps the most exciting element to The Wanderer is the El Wanderer label where he produces a Carinyena from a remote wine region in very northern Spain. The combination of classic Yarra Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir melded with Carinyena, otherwise known as Carignan, from Spain is an exciting mix.

As for food pairing, it’s a brilliantly versatile release - it’s going to be especially good with seafood soups and stews, seared salmon with peas and greens, cured meats like prosciutto and salami, chicken curry and veggie treats like arrabbiata pasta, puttanesca and veggie risotto.
