Details
Col Fondo is Italian for 'with the bottom', and it means bottling with a Prosecco with the lees in the bottom of the vat. This ancient way to make sparkling wine delivers the most complex Prosecco of all, with beautiful cloudy wines just like this beauty from Rory Lane. Sourced from an organic vineyard in Central Victoria, this natural wine has the feel of cloudy lemon and apple juice, yet most definitely for adults. Tangy, vibrant, a little wild at the edges, but ultimately super refreshing (and no preservatives).
'The Story' is all about Rory. He will tell you otherwise, but we often think the maker is as important as the wines they produce. Quality is the only intention that Rory Lane ever has when creating wine for 'The Story'. Never one to credit his own genius for the wines, instead, he acknowledges the brilliance of the vineyards and his growers, often super marginal and cool places - much riskier to work with on a consistent basis. Take the crazy pandemic and bushfire year of 2020 for example. Rory basically didn't make any wine that year, for a variety of reasons, and not only because of the unforgettable fires, but ultimately felt the vintage wasn't good enough for 'The Story'. To virtually 'declassify' or reject an entire year (okay, the 2 tonnes of his best Shiraz aside) shows you a dedication to uncompromised quality for his brand. He is all about respecting place and the wines need to reflect that. Seriously intelligent. With a winery in the 'burbs of Melbourne, Rory Lane creates his wines from the vineyard first. Having access to incredible fruit from growers whose relationships he established and has nurtured since 'The Story's' infancy in the mid 00's. These growers know and trust Rory's winemaking prowess, and have even been guided by his intuitive foresight as to what grapes to grow where.

Pairing guide
Pét Nat has long since taken over our hearts and taste buds, and there’s simply no stopping this celebrated sparkling wine style… not least because it pairs so well with so many of our favourite foods. We always love pairing Pét Nat with street food favourites like southern fried chicken, crispy tofu and noodles and pulled pork sandwiches, but it’s also a great option for breaded fish, salt and pepper squid, grain-based salads and Middle Eastern treats like falafel and sabich. Yum!

Wine region

Nagambie, Australia
Nagambie is the iconic sub region of Goulburn Valley, which is known for more than just ‘Peaches, Mangoes, Peaches,’ as the wine that comes out of this region is of amazing quality as well. The region has areas that have been producing wine since the mid 1800s and is known for producing high quality Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay as well as becoming iconic for rhone varieties like Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Here you will find the equally iconic wineries of Tahbilk and Mitchelton which has given Nagambie official sub-region status.
