Details
The Clappis family are generational winemakers. Father and daughter combine to tend beautiful vineyards and make wines that could only be from Australia.
Their commitment to biodynamic viticulture ensures they only harvest premium fruit to make their wines.
This vintage is a classic - dark, chocolatey, very rich, with a slight char to the fruit, like it's sat in the sun for a while. Really deep and rich.
The nose is really enticing, with lots of rose and cherry alongside the darker fruit. Confident oak use adds flavours of mocha and coffee bean and adds layers to the wine.
Overall it's very dark and sensual, with a lush texture and a definite roundness.
Drink at night, preferably with steak, in a big glass.
An iconic South Australian winemaking family! Walter Clappis has (almost) made more wines than we’ve drunk….and that is saying something. A dynamic trio – the winemaking team consists of Walter, a veteran winemaker of 33 vintages, daughter, Kimberly and her partner James Cooter. Walter’s experience and wisdom plus the energy and enthusiasm of the new generation have created the perfect balance in the winery. They adopt a minimalistic approach to winemaking, believing that good wines are “made in the vineyard”.

Pairing guide
Big, buxom, bold and intense, this Shiraz from Hedonist is a great example of everything this grape varietal does so well. It’s a wine that’s going to be most at home when enjoyed alongside smoky, barbecued and charred meats - try it with classic burgers on the barbie, a sirloin or ribeye steak and pepper sauce, or alongside dishes featuring cured meats like bacon. When it comes to food pairing with Shiraz, we always think the more rustic and rough around the edges the better; that’s why it goes so wonderfully with cuts like beef brisket, lamb shanks, or hearty homemade meat stews. Give it a try, and find out for yourself!
