Details
Pinot Noir makes such excellent rosé that we often wonder why there isn't more of it. With this Cups Estate wine, you end up with quite a flavour hit too, with a load of creamed strawberries, rose petal aromatics and then a nice raspberried finish. It's crisp and dry, with a gentle creamy edge to the whole package. A serious, and seriously drinkable, premium rosé.

Who wakes up and decides to call their winery dream property 'The Cups Estate'? That would be Joe Fisicaro, who, after a long career in Melbourne finance, decided to pursue his passion with the purchase of a 30-acre property on the stunning Mornington Peninsula. Not only is it beautiful (Google it!), you can't miss the rolling sandhills that look a bit like upside-down coffee cups in saucers. One thing led to another, and The Cups Estate was born! That was back in the 90s, and since then, The Cups Estate wines have quietly earned a decent brag sheet, with the cool sparkling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris from the property winning gold medals and trophies all over the countryside. Local wine legend Richard McIntyre of Moorooduc Estate has been a big part of that success, introducing a minimal intervention approach to the winemaking, including low preservative additions, whole-bunch pressing, wild yeast fermentation, natural malolactic fermentation, and little to no filtration or fining.

Pairing guide
This style of more creamy and complex rosé really finds a home in comfort food (and especially rich French comfort food). Steak tartare, cassoulet, escargot with lots of butter, creamy onion soup, and anything with butter and/or cream as a key ingredient is going to be a happy pairing with such a delicious rosé. Stepping beyond French flavours, the allure of classic Italian fare pulls you in too, with risotto and polenta-based dishes a welcome friend with this Cups rosé, particularly including white fish, calamari or chicken as a protein.

Wine region
Mornington Peninsula, Australia
Just an hour's drive south of Melbourne is the Pinot Paradise, also known as Mornington Peninsula. The signature variety of the region is, without a doubt, Pinot Noir, accounting for over half of the region’s vines, followed by Chardonnay at 25% and Pinot Gris at 20%. Pinot Noir from this region is typically characterised by its refreshing acidity and purity. The deep colour may lead you to think these wines are potent, but in reality, the wines are elegant, pretty and medium-bodied at best. Surrounded by Bass Strait, Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay in Victoria, Mornington Peninsula’s climate is uniquely maritime cool and breezy. In fact, no vineyard is further than 7km from the ocean! Some of the most notable producers in the Mornington Peninsula include Kooyong, Ten Minutes by Tractor, Stonier Wines and boutique wineries such as Montalto, Ocean Eight, and Quealy Wines.
