Details
The Terra do Rio range focusses on Portugese and Spanish grape varieties, and here we're looking at Arinto. This white is imbued with soft lemon and peach aromas, backed up by some bay leaf and laurel. Complex and charming, it has a smooth mid-palate with just enough thirst-quenching acidity worked through it. There's a twinge of grapefruity bitterness on the end to keep things smart.
Origin: Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Portugal, Spain, USA, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand. Key Facts: Nowadays, it is planted from the cool north in Vinho Verde to the hot south of Alentejo in Portugal. The best examples come from the Bucelas region, where Arinto makes up 75% of the blend. Its second role is being a component in the ever-popular Vinho Verde, Portugal’s spritzy gift to the world; these wines are youthful, flavourful, and, importantly, affordable. On its own, Arinto tastes lemony, with green apple, and has a refreshing chalky minerality; while in a white ‘Vinho Verde’ blend, Arinto is all that and more. In Vinho Verde, Arinto is blended alongside other indigenous Portuguese varieties delivering crunchy tropical fruit, pear, melon, lime and cool mineral notes, and even a signature effervescence! Fun fact: In Portugal's most popular white wine, Vinho Verde, Arinto is blended with Azal, Avesso, Loureiro and Trajadura. What a delicious mouthful!

Pairing guide
We’re more than a little head-over-heels with this Arinto wine from Terra do Rio, and not least because it pairs so well with some of our favourite dishes. Portuguese salt cod cakes, lobster or crab linguine, mussels and scallops with lemon and butter are all winning matches here. It’s also going to be delicious with a crisp green salad, grilled vegetables and all kinds of marinated antipasti.

Wine region

Riverland, Australia
Located in the heart of South Australia, the Riverland wine region is a tropical paradise for wine lovers. The region was formerly known for its traditional wines, particularly Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Grenache as well as its abundance of sunshine and beautiful scenery. In the last few years it's added a raft of Mediterranean varieties to its charm - think Fiano and Nero d'Avola. The warm climate and fertile soils of the Riverland make it a perfect place for grape growing, and the wines produced there are bursting with flavour. So why not explore the wines of the Riverland and discover a new favourite?
