Details
A captivating wine, both powerful and elegant. It gleams in the glass, a lovely ruby red colour, and then the nose is complex and engaging - harmonious notes of red cherry and ripe plum, with some charcoal and lavender. The tannins are firm and wash any thought of 'fruitiness' away, but the wine manages to finish on a fresh, juicy note.

The Zullo family, who own Tenuta Viglione, produce some of the more charismatic wines of the area, using both traditional techniques and advanced methodologies – from the context of caring for land and grape, to the processing of the wine, and it’s arrival to the bottle. After many years, driven by his passion for the art of good wine and an attachment to the family and its origins, Giovanni Zullo (third generation of the Zullo family) is honoured to step up and continue to improve the the quality of all aspects of Tenuta Viglione wines. The collection of wines is captivating - using only local varieties, and ensuring that not only are their practices organic, but everything by hand, means the wines are a slow labour of love, gently guiding the grapes on their journey to bottle. The results are worth it - try for yourself!

Pairing guide
Mmm… we do love a good bottle of Primitivo, and this stunner from Viglione is one of our absolute favourites. This rich and juicy southern Italian classic has long been regarded as one of the best food pairing wines out there, and when you pair it with a spicy Indian curry, a well-seasoned hunk of barbecued meat, or a vegetarian dish of beetroot and lentils, you’ll definitely be able to see why. It’s great with loads of vegan and vegetarian dishes of peas, beans, chickpeas, or lentils, too, and works wonders with blackened and charred meats, especially ribs and ribeye.

Wine region
Puglia, Italy
Puglia is a wine region in the "heel" of Italy that is known for its red, white, and rosé wines. The full-bodied red wines are often made with Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes, while the whites are usually made with Verdeca and Fiano grapes. Puglia has a hot, sunny climate which helps the grapes ripen fully and gives the wines a rich flavour. The region is also home to some unique grape varieties, like Nero di Troia and Bombino Nero. So, if you're a fan of Italian wine, definitely give Puglia a try! Historically Puglia has been better known for its quantity of wine over its quality. But thanks to a number of quality-focused producers, the region is turning that narrative around.
