Details
A refreshing take on the classic Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi DOC. It offers plenty of exuberant aromas of white peach, orange blossom and fresh garden herbs. The palate is elegant and lively with lemon, crunchy Granny Smith apple and fine streaks of flinty, mineral acidity. Tight, tangy and refreshing - great drinking.

Unlike many producers from Marche’s Castelli di Jesi DOC, Tenuta di Tavignano began towards the end of the 20th century with a one-eyed focus on producing sublime versions of the region’s most famous (but at the time maligned) grape variety – Verdicchio. Rewind to the late 80s and early 90s, it was a very similar story in Marche as it was in Tuscany and Veneto where the native local varieties were being re-planted to Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay and the like (the ‘International’ varieties in Italian speak). So it was with interest that in 1973, the knowing few watched owner Stefano Aymerich actually plant Verdicchio in the most favoured parcels of the estate which he had just purchased. His choice turned out to be an inspired one. Verdicchio now makes arguably Italy’s greatest white wines thanks mainly to people like Stefano and his niece Ondine De La Feld (who helps run the estate these days) This small team has propelled the estate to become – in a relatively short space of time – one of the most prolific producers of Verdicchio in all of Italy.

Pairing guide
Ah, Verdicchio - it’s a grape varietal that’s grown to become one of our all-time favourites, and this gorgeous bottle from Tavignano truly does it justice. The racy lemon zestiness in this wine makes it an amazing pairing for pretty much every white fish dish imaginable, and simple grilled shellfish never fails to sing in the mouth when paired with this wine. It’s also a great match for dishes which feature almonds, and it works brilliantly with cured meats and charcuterie, pesto dishes, spring veggies, and risottos of white meats and vegetables.
