Details
A simple and delicious wine, filled with succulent fruit and juicy acidity. There's a mix of kiwi fruit, white peach and ripe orange. Plenty of high toned aromatics of lime blossom, spearmint and grapefruit peel. Some sweet pineapple and lychee flavours turn silky and creamy, with a pure acid line driving the finish to be crisp and fresh.
They say the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Well if this story of the Allan family is anything to go by, that aphorism has more than a grain of truth about it! Claire and Mike Allan are the founders and owners of Huia winery in the Rapaura region of Marlborough, one of the original wineries in the valley. Their young daughter Sophie grew up around vines and wine, but took a turn after school, studying arts and commerce. It was only with the 2018 vintage that she returned to the fold, to make this wonderful wine! The academic knowledge and experienced overlay her innate understanding of the wine industry, and has found her studies useful to Huia, from branding to business savvy, and a better understanding of the people who drink wine. Claire & Mike started Huia in the mid ‘90s. Living amongst the vines in house they built themselves, they raised their two daughters, Tui & Sophie while handcrafting wine and on occasion honey and olive oil. Organic for over a decade now, the care of the vineyard has always been paramount to the family. The 2018 Sublime Sauvignon Blanc is harvested from three organic vineyards situated on the Wairau Plains. These vineyard sites are sunny and warm, enhancing ripeness.

Pairing guide
You can’t go wrong with a quality Sauvignon Blanc at lunchtime. This elegant and lively white wine is perfect with a massive array of vegetarian dishes, even tricky-to-pair-with veggies like asparagus, artichoke, and broccoli. It’s perfect with creamy goats’ cheese dishes, herby sauces, delicate white fish fillets, and almost any salad imaginable. Chicken breast or pork chops would be a good option for meat-lovers, and any dish containing creme fraiche or yoghurt, and plenty of fresh herbs.

Wine region

Marlborough, New Zealand
Marlborough is by far and away the jewel in New Zealand's winemaking crown. Situated at the northern tip of the South Island, Marlborough is home to one of the world's most celebrated and popular styles of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The region surmises the natural beauty that New Zealand boasts and is now home to over 500 wine producers of varying sizes, from epic, large-scale operations to small, boutique craft producers. Naturally, the region is celebrated for its zesty, pungent styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but the wine train doesn't stop there. Marlborough is also celebrated for very high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the latter being some of the most underrated wines in the region). You will also find smaller pockets of Viognier, Riesling and Pinot Gris planted here. Marlborough represents almost 75% of all wine produced in New Zealand.
