Details
Gorgeous in its purple colour, it's really perfumed and attractive, with flashy sweet chewy fruits. One couldn't help but think of comedian John C. Reilly exclaiming "sweet berry wine!" With an abundance of fresh red berry fruit aromas, that generous nose continues in a full berried flavour that's inimitably southern Tasmanian. Slinky in feel, and although technically dry, it slides into a lovely 'sweet' finish with silky smooth tannins. Awesome, great job!

You're exploring Tasmania...Follow the Coal River just three kilometres north from the picturesque sandstone village of Richmond and you come to Storm Bay Vineyards where the ancient tertiary clays and limestone coupled with long and slow ripening, produce wines with finesse and elegance. Wines like Storm Bay, are in a world of their own. There really is nothing quite like this climate, nor the fruit expression you get from this part of the world. Named after the notorious mouth of the river Derwent, the Storm Bay wines are made by Alain Rousseau, and surprisingly not inspired by Burgundy, but rather Tasmania’s maritime climate, which the wines reflect inimitably. Storm Bay Pinot Noir is made entirely from fruit sourced from their Nocton Vineyard. The plushness of Pinot Noir overdelivers in every way, from the richness of the fruit, to the volume of flavour and generosity of satin and cashmere like texture. You know, Pinot can be rather fickle, but from extreme climates like Coal River, we are positively tickled.

Pairing guide
If you’re not already head-over-heels in love with the Pinot Noir coming out of Tasmania, this gorgeous bottle from Storm Bay is here to fully convert you from the very first sip. With its currant and spice profile, elegant body, and savoury tannins, it’s the ideal showcase for what Tassie is doing best right now. As for food pairing… Well, it would be easier to list what doesn’t pair with this wine. We love it with rare duck breast, rack of lamb, roast poultry dishes, Spanish-style fish-and-paprika creations, and roasted root vegetables. However, you’ll get brilliant results with everything from tomato-based pasta classics, Indian curries like rogan josh and butter chicken, to bacon-stuffed mushrooms and Mediterranean vegetable pastries.

Wine region
Coal River Valley, Australia
Coal River Valley is a wine region located in southern Tasmania, an hour drive from Hobart. There is a wave of high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir coming out of the region with waves of mainland wineries setting up in this truly premium region. The region receives a good amount of rainfall and has typical Tassie weather which endears it to a cool climate style. There is a lovely array of family wineries who have been in the region since the 1970s along with the influx of larger wineries who are snapping up land where possible. A region to watch as the growth and quality continues to rise.
