Details
Torrontes is an Argetine speciality, rarely found anywhere else. It is most similar to Gewurztraminer - on the nose the wine is very aromatic yet elegant, with bright yellow fruits and hints of jasmine. There's rose petal, melon, a slight hint of honey and then the wine finishes fresh and dry. This wine comes from selected vineyards located in Maipú, Mendoza. Sandy loam soils have natural drainage of pure snowmelt from the Andes which is rich in minerals.

The winery of Stocco de Viani was founded in 1950 by brothers Carlos and Francisco Stocco, son's of an Italian immigrant family who had some knowledge of viticulture back in their homeland. The move to Argentina was a tumultuous one, but the local Italian community rallied around them and they soon found a warm welcome. Starting with the vineyard holdings of their parents, the brothers built a winery in Maipú subregion of Mendoza with the desire to craft authentic wines from their 'new homeland'. In more recent times - from 2002 onwards - the third generation took over and started a new era for the winery, by combining the traditional plantings and ethos with new winemaking technology. This fresh approach led to the creation of a new flagship range, under the name “Stocco de Viani”. The wines are made using traditional Argentine varietals - Malbec, Torrontes and Bonarda leading the way - but with an 'old world' sensibility, prizing subtlety and freshness over intense fruit. Nowadays, the winery is still working with the same passion and dedication of its founders, honouring the grapegrowing and winemaking legacy of those days back in Italy, and setting the tone and mode for future generations.
