Details
Celebrating the old bush vine Chenin Blanc that the Cape is famous for, this Chenin comes from a single vineyard planted in 1964 in the Bottelary Hills. What a mouthful of citrusy juiciness it is too! Ripe and full-flavoured style, this white wine trades in all sorts of honeyed marzipan quince richness with layers of opulent stonefruit and nougat with a round edge. It's a lot of wine, and proudly so.

Stellenrust's history dates back to 1928, when this celebrated family estate bottled its first wine on the farm. Today, that estate extends to over 400ha, with half in what is known as 'the Golden Triangle' area of Stellenbosch, which is historically home to some of the Cape's finest wines. The other half is high up in the Bottelary Hills, where you can trade back in the late afternoon sea breezes and altitude to give a cooler edge to the wines. The Stellenrust farm is run by brothers Tertius and Kobus van der Westhuizen, who are committed to following their father's dream: to give something back to the workers who have themselves given so much to the farm. Now proudly certified Fairtrade, Stellenrust has a reputation for one of the most successful Black Economic Empowerment projects in South Africa, with its 70 employees taking ownership of the land they farm.

Pairing guide
We just adore this beautifully aromatic and characterful Chenin Blanc from Stellenrust - it’s exactly the kind of chilled white wine we love to sip on when surrounded by good friends and great food! This white wine is going to be an absolute winner with dishes featuring gentle spices or a sweet and sour flavour profile; everything from Singapore noodles, pork chops with apple sauce, Moroccan baked cauliflower and prawns with lemon, ginger and garlic will work a treat. More robust white fish dishes, delicate seafood, tempura prawns with a sweet chilli dip and curried chickpeas will also pair beautifully.

Wine region
Stellenbosch, South Africa
Stellenbosch is one of South Africa’s premier wine regions, located in the Western Cape, outside Cape Town. In South Africa, wine regions are known as winelands. Stellenbosch means ‘town of oaks’ and its winemaking dates back to the 17th century. The mountainous terrain, good rainfall, deep well-drained soils and diversity of terroirs make this a sought-after viticultural area. The wineland itself is known for high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay as well as the local speciality, Pinotage.
