Details
Delicate varietal 'Riesling' aromas; florals of jasmine and lemon blossom, bursting with citrus fruits underneath. There is mandarin juice and citrus essence throughout, yet it stays soft and talcy. An upbeat and almost dangerously drinkable wine, likely from that hint of residual sweetness balancing out an intense, energetic acidity. Yum!

New Zealand born Samantha Connew has been on our shores producing wine for long enough now, Australia has adopted her as one of our own. As one of the most reputable winemakers and wine judges, Sam moved from the mainland to the cooler island of Tasmania, to plant her very own vineyard - a dream for a wine producer to work their own land. Through sheer dedication, and a passion for Australian wine - Sam sought to fulfil her dream, in finding the perfect place (Coal River Valley, Tasmania) to produce pristine fruit, and craft incredible wines surrounded by extraordinary beauty. The plan for Stargazer is to one day be entirely 'estate' produced - and she is almost there. The eleven hectare 'Palisander' vineyard is located in the Tea Tree subregion in the northern end of the Coal River Valley, and was originally planted in 2004 to Riesling and Pinot Noir. Sam took over the site in 2016, and has been expanding the vineyard to include more Pinot Noir, some Chardonnay and of course, more Riesling. Just like the eponymous label 'Stargazer', Sam's Riesling will have you gazing at the stars and wondering how on Earth do these Rieslings taste like drinking the stars themselves. They are truly wonderful.

Pairing guide
It really doesn’t get much better than a gorgeously refreshing and racy Riesling served with a home-cooked meal, and this bottle from Stargazer ticks all the right boxes! With its delicious balanced character, it’s the ideal pairing for spicy Thai and other southeast Asian fare, and will work well with fiery Sichuan fish, pork, or chicken, and Singapore noodles, too. Central European favourites like schnitzel, potato salad, and hearty pork and chicken stews will also work very nicely, and it’s going to be great with dishes of green vegetables and mild cheeses, too.

Wine region
Coal River Valley, Australia
Coal River Valley is a wine region located in southern Tasmania, an hour drive from Hobart. There is a wave of high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir coming out of the region with waves of mainland wineries setting up in this truly premium region. The region receives a good amount of rainfall and has typical Tassie weather which endears it to a cool climate style. There is a lovely array of family wineries who have been in the region since the 1970s along with the influx of larger wineries who are snapping up land where possible. A region to watch as the growth and quality continues to rise.
