Details
An idiosyncratic Riesling, showing wonderfully complex aromatics such as spiced pineapple, jasmine and green almond. The palate is equally as wonderful, with deep, concentrated citrus fruits surrounded by textural components; lemon balm and a waxy feel that pulls on the finish with chalkiness, tension and a slight oyster shell savouriness. Line and length.

New Zealand born Samantha Connew has been on our shores producing wine for long enough now, Australia has adopted her as one of our own. As one of the most reputable winemakers and wine judges, Sam moved from the mainland to the cooler island of Tasmania, to plant her very own vineyard - a dream for a wine producer to work their own land. Through sheer dedication, and a passion for Australian wine - Sam sought to fulfil her dream, in finding the perfect place (Coal River Valley, Tasmania) to produce pristine fruit, and craft incredible wines surrounded by extraordinary beauty. The plan for Stargazer is to one day be entirely 'estate' produced - and she is almost there. The eleven hectare 'Palisander' vineyard is located in the Tea Tree subregion in the northern end of the Coal River Valley, and was originally planted in 2004 to Riesling and Pinot Noir. Sam took over the site in 2016, and has been expanding the vineyard to include more Pinot Noir, some Chardonnay and of course, more Riesling. Just like the eponymous label 'Stargazer', Sam's Riesling will have you gazing at the stars and wondering how on Earth do these Rieslings taste like drinking the stars themselves. They are truly wonderful.

Pairing guide
We absolutely loved this beautiful Riesling from Stargazer, which encapsulates that gorgeous freshness and balance in every sip. Like most Aussie Riesling, it’s hard to resist pairing this wine with fiery Asian curries and classics like Pad Thai, but it will work well with a massive array of noodle dishes, chicken salads, sushi, and grilled fish creations. Salmon with garlic and ginger will work well here, and you’ll get great results with most salads and pungent side dishes like kimchi.

Coal River Valley, Australia
Coal River Valley is a wine region located in southern Tasmania, an hour drive from Hobart. There is a wave of high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir coming out of the region with waves of mainland wineries setting up in this truly premium region. The region receives a good amount of rainfall and has typical Tassie weather which endears it to a cool climate style. There is a lovely array of family wineries who have been in the region since the 1970s along with the influx of larger wineries who are snapping up land where possible. A region to watch as the growth and quality continues to rise.
