Details
Kangaroo Island is home to lots of Kangaroos (surprise, surprise), Koalas and a heap of modern, delicious wine. The Little Island fizz is a delightful blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, producing a dark fruited affair with undercurrents of aniseed and cherry cola. A perfect accompaniment for celebrations, aussie style.
The Battle of Bosworth dates back to the 15th century which saw Richard III die in battle, the last king of England to do so. Luckily, Jock Bosworth, owner and winemaker of Battle of Bosworth, which is the namesake of this battle, needs not throw down the gauntlet in this day and age. Jock and his wife Louise are fighting the wine war on multiple fronts, making wines in McLaren Vale as well as Kangaroo Island under three different labels. Jock took over the reins of the winery from his dad in 1995 and quickly moved to organic practices in the vineyard. The winery is one of the leaders for organics and even highlights this with the soursob, an important weed used to stop other weeds from taking over in the vineyard, featuring on their labels. The wines behind their thoughtful labels are delightful, made in a bright, modern style that reflects the care shown in the winery. Thankfully, this battle is easily won and proves that the wine is mightier than the sword.

Pairing guide
We’re huge fans of this beautifully flavourful sparkling red from Springs Road, and when it comes to bringing some real character to your festive feasts, few other bottles of fizz can compete or provide such versatility! We reckon it’s a top pairing for Asian-style salads with rare lamb or slices of sirloin steak, but it’s also going to be beautiful with pork belly and crispy duck, charcuterie items and robust Middle Eastern salads with pomegranate and heritage grains.

Kangaroo Island, Australia
Kangaroo Island is located off the coast of South Australia at one end of the Gulf of St. Vincent. The island is known for an abundance of cuddly Koalas and cute Kangaroos as the name suggests. Historically, the island was considered to be the capital of South Australia, greatly appealing to the Brits with a solid base of water protecting them from invaders. This didn’t get too far as there is no easy access to water on the island and those plans were scrapped. The island has a lovely, emerging group of wineries that excel in producing a wide range of different varieties and styles. The island is bouncing back from the devastating 2020 bushfires and luckily the islanders are a stoic bunch.
