Details
Joan is Dan Graham's Adelaide Hills sparkling wine, named after his late grandmother. Sourced from an organically farmed plot in the beautiful Piccadilly Valley, this is a beautiful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend that has this line of fine appley fruit flavour, with the layers of creamy brioche nutty complexity that comes from three years spent maturing on yeast lees. A fantastically detailed and expressive Australian fizz!
Sigurd was Dan Graham's grandfather - a Norwegian-born larrikin who was famously shot twice in WWI during some random absconding mischievousness and was an icon for his family (Sigurd is also Dan's middle name). The Graham family ended up in the wine industry, with Dan following in his winemaking father's footsteps to make wine around the world before settling in the Barossa. An important part of Dan's journey was a stint at Jacob's Creek, where he quickly realised that conventional industrial wine production just wasn't his jam. As a result, all the Sigurd wines come from vineyards farmed organically, and his winemaking mode is expressive, with lo-fi wines with minimal additions, natural fermentation, and a real sense of transparency. While the Barossa is the focus, he has also crafted wines from organic plots as far afield as Orange in NSW, just for entertainment and diversity.

Pairing guide
This beautiful fizz from Sigurd is going to pair fantastically well with fresh seafood like oysters, ceviche dishes, barbecued prawns and seared scallops with chorizo or black pudding. It’s also superb with decadent side dishes like tempura courgettes, crispy noodles or kimchi fried rice, as well as with breaded chicken or sole goujons, sushi, and roast poultry with morels and tarragon. Fantastic!

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
