Details
This zesty fizz is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills. It's a wonderfully balanced wine, walking the tightrope between fruit and savoury complexity. There's notes of strawberries, lemon zest and biscuit, along with nougat and nectarine. Faintly nutty, the richness is well countered by the very fine acidity. Wonderful.
Sidewood was established in 2004 by Owen & Cassandra Inglis in the Adelaide Hills region of Oakbank. This elevated area has a relatively cool climate and is well known for producing elegant, fresh wines that are built on a backbone of acidity. With a raft of experience in the corporate world, Owen is ambitious and from starting with their 120-hectare Mappinga estate that is planted with Sauvignon and Chardonnay vines, they have expanded to vineyards at Nairne, Echunga and Verdun. Each vineyard site is different, and offers advantages for different varieties - for example Mappinga is the coolest and Nairne is the warmest, whilst the vineyard at Echunga is only planted to Shiraz. Sidewood is headed by renowned winemaker Darryl Catlin, who worked for a number of years at Shaw & Smith, and now also has his own eponymous label, sourcing fruit from the Hills and the Clare Valley. His knowledge and skill craft the Sidewood wines into fragrant, fresh examples that are elegant and gastronomically flexible.

Pairing guide
Made with the classic Champagne blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this beautiful sparkling wine brings all the bite, acidity, and flavour you need for a top-quality food pairing bottle. Like all good fizz, this is a seriously food-friendly wine; it’s going to pair with pretty much everything you can throw at it. However, we especially like it with smoked salmon, fried veggies and white meats, dishes with a zesty citrus dressing, and shellfish such as mussels and oysters. It’s also superb with french fries, so don’t be afraid to use this bottle to glam up your next takeout meal!

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
