Details
Made mostly from old-vine Grenache vines planted in 1969 and a little tickle of Mataro, only a small amount of this wine is made. Bright cranberry and red cherry on the nose, plus some fresh watermelon on the palate with gentle nutty notes providing complexity. It has a lovely hit of gentle spice on the mid-weight, long palate that is bound nicely with balanced acidity.
Jason Schwarz was doomed to be a winemaker from his childhood. Ensconced in the vineyards of South Australia, in particular Bethany in the Barossa Valley, his parents had provided the suitable environment from the very beginning. After finishing his winemaking degree, he set off to see the world and completed vintages in France, the USA and Argentina, before returning home and starting his own label in 2001. Starting off with only a two barrels of Barossa Shiraz in the first year, he followed this with a similar amount of Grenache the next. The Grenache is still made every year and is a fixture in his offerings. With great fruit sources from the beginning and a heap of guidance from some key Barossa winemaking and grape-growing icons, the wines of Schwarz deliberately try to the show off the quality of the fruit with a minimal intervention.

Pairing guide
Barossa rosé wines have to be up there with the best in the world, and this is as true for flavour and aroma as it is for food-friendliness. We just love sipping this blushing wine alongside fried veggies - if you have the time to whip up a tempura-style batter, try making homemade tempura zucchini with a sweet chilli sauce, and you’re onto a winner. Obviously, it’s also a great match for simple risotto dishes, pasta in white sauces or tomato sauces, and garlic prawns, and you’re going to find top results with delicate pork dishes, ham, pâtés, and terrines.
