Details
Tempranillo is a great gateway from the realms of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon into the exciting world of alternative varieties. The guys at Russell & Suitor are no strangers to Tempranillo and this has all the classic hallmarks of great Temp. There is plenty of cherry cola spice with a creamy structure and chewy tannin.
Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: Spain, Portugal, Argentina. Key Facts: You love the bold and the beautiful; the kind of beauty that is confident, self-assured, secure and doesn’t need to spend extra time in the mirror for a self-guided pep talk in order to look mega hot on the dance floor. Meet Tempranillo, a Spanish grape with a confident backbone of tannin balanced with sweeter red fruits like cherries and strawberries and with an alluring kick of spice. Tempranillo is praised both in its youth and with oak age in Spain. In fact, in Rioja they have a full grading system based on the time it spends ageing in oak. The more time in oak, the more expensive, but also the more you will notice flavours becoming more leathery and savoury. It is important to remember, however that more time in oak does not necessarily mean it is better quality. Fun Fact: Tempranillo is the fourth most planted grape in the world!

Pairing guide
What could be better than a top-notch bottle of Tempranillo with your dinner? This delicious bottle from Russell & Suitor ticks all the right boxes when it comes to flavour, character and food-friendliness, and we loved it with dishes featuring classic Iberian flavours of roast pork, paprika, saffron and slow-cooked beans or lentils. Mexican, Creole and Cajun dishes like jambalaya, fajitas or beef tacos will work well, and it’s also delicious with polenta cooked with cheese and sage, smoked tofu or mushrooms.
