Details
This gorgeous Italian variety at its best has plenty of spice with a nice touch of fruit and tannin. The Monte from Russell & Suitor is modern Montepulciano at its best with layers of baking spices and bright red berries. This is your perfect balance of sweet and spice with all things nice, we recommend you get into your comfiest trackies and jump into the kitchen while splashing out a few generous glasses of this scrumptious wine.

Alex Russell is an entrepreneurial winemaker who began his winemaking journey by crafting wines from Mildura and the Riverland, using a range of so-called 'alternative' grape varieties (mostly Mediterranean influenced) to create modern and approachable wines. Since then he has expanded south, to Tasmania, where he creates more classically styled wines from Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. From Merlot to Montepulciano, the breadth is quite astounding! Alejandro is his range of Iberian and Mediterranean varieties, perfectly suited to the warm inland Aussie climate. This is modern winemaking at its best, and the attention to detail shows through in the suite of precise and detailed wines. Lots to love here, with fruit to the fore and a real eye for purity.

Pairing guide
This is a fantastic realisation of a classic Italian red style, given peerless elegance and a boost of power with good ol’ Aussie ingenuity. As for food pairing, match this stunning red wine with beef bolognese and other ragu sauces, and you’ll be onto a winner. Lasagna, meaty pizza, eggplant parmigiana and classic stews like lamb tagine, goulash and bourguignon will work brilliantly, and it’s also excellent with peppery or herb sausages, roast meats and all kinds of mushroom dishes, too.

Wine region
Riverland, Australia
Located in the heart of South Australia, the Riverland wine region is a tropical paradise for wine lovers. The region was formerly known for its traditional wines, particularly Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Grenache as well as its abundance of sunshine and beautiful scenery. In the last few years it's added a raft of Mediterranean varieties to its charm - think Fiano and Nero d'Avola. The warm climate and fertile soils of the Riverland make it a perfect place for grape growing, and the wines produced there are bursting with flavour. So why not explore the wines of the Riverland and discover a new favourite?
