Details
Fiano is fast becoming the new Pinot Gris and just so happens to be a lot cooler too! The team at Russell & Suitor have produced an absolute banger which hits all the sweet spots, layers of nectarine and peach, floral lift and a nice weight that will have you saying Pinot Who!?! Enjoy Fiano as much as you can before the next hot shot rocks up in your box.
Alex Russell is an entrepreneurial winemaker who began his winemaking journey by crafting wines from Mildura and the Riverland, using a range of so-called 'alternative' grape varieties (mostly Mediterranean influenced) to create modern and approachable wines. Since then he has expanded south, to Tasmania, where he creates more classically styled wines from Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. From Merlot to Montepulciano, the breadth is quite astounding! Alejandro is his range of Iberian and Mediterranean varieties, perfectly suited to the warm inland Aussie climate. This is modern winemaking at its best, and the attention to detail shows through in the suite of precise and detailed wines. Lots to love here, with fruit to the fore and a real eye for purity.

Pairing guide
We adore Fiano here at Good Pair Days. Like a vinous escape to the seaside, and as such, we love to pair it up with the freshest fish and shellfish we can get our hands on. With its contrasty high acid, it's great with battered and fried cod, baked bass, barramundi, scallops, prawns. Vegetarian dishes of green veggies are always welcome with this varietal, too, and it’s decent with both creamy and tomato-based pasta sauces. Flexible Fiano - what can't you pair with!?

Wine region

Murray Darling, Australia
The Murray Darling wine region is one of the three that is the backbone of the Australian wine industry, alongside the Riverland and Riverina. The Murray Darling is situated along the Victorian and NSW border with Mildura being the centre. Whether it is grapes or oranges and other fruit, this is the place to find them. It's a hot and dry area with long, hot summers and cool winters, making it the perfect spot for growing grapes. Aside from the commercial wineries that source a large amount of fruit from this region, there is also a growing scene of alternative varietals thanks to wineries like Chalmers.
