Details
Who said that orange wine needs to be wild? This Rouleur Pinot Gris-based skin contact wine is crisp and fresh like a cucumber (though it tastes more like mandarin than cukes). Using grapes from the chilly heights of Whitlands in the King Valley (which is seemingly cold all year round), this smells like a bowl of potpourri, and tastes like an exotic mix of tangerine, musk and ginger then a lovely tangy twist.

Matt East was born into wine. His father, an airline pilot, planted a vineyard on the family property at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley in 1984. Matt grew up working in the vineyard and making wine in his family's shed using an old basket press, which ultimately led to a career in wine sales and marketing. Life then delivered Matt's family a blow, as his dad was diagnosed with cancer and passed away within 12 short months. Before he died, he made Matt promise to make wine from the vineyard he planted. Matt left his wine job in McLaren Vale to start Rouleur Wines, crafting delicious Chardonnay and Pinot from his family's Yarra Valley plot, as well as Grenache & Shiraz from McLaren Vale, plus so much more. The name is a nod to Matt's love of cycling, with a rouleur typically a rider who can smash out hard kms on the flatlands - although the slightly built Matt is anything but a big boned man for the flats, and his wines are typically crisp and refined.

Pairing guide
Floral and tangy orange wines like this can be problematic to pair with due to the real tangy finish, although this nicely balance Rouleur wine is much more easygoing. You really want a dish that has some body to it, especially things that introduce some citrus in the mix, including baked fish with orange or lemon, salads with citrus or tangy dips. Chicken, pork and anything with a little spice (but not too much) would be welcome here, and this Rouleur can also work wonderfully with omelettes and egg-based options.
