This Portugese white variety is not commonly seen in Australia, but that may change in the future, as winemakers looks for varieties that need less water and are capable of producing wines with power, depth and freshness. Arinto shows off richness and depth, with candied citrus, pear and a creamy texture. Delicious.

Origin: Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Portugal, Spain, USA, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand. Key Facts: Nowadays, it is planted from the cool north in Vinho Verde to the hot south of Alentejo in Portugal. The best examples come from the Bucelas region, where Arinto makes up 75% of the blend. Its second role is being a component in the ever-popular Vinho Verde, Portugal’s spritzy gift to the world; these wines are youthful, flavourful, and, importantly, affordable. On its own, Arinto tastes lemony, with green apple, and has a refreshing chalky minerality; while in a white ‘Vinho Verde’ blend, Arinto is all that and more. In Vinho Verde, Arinto is blended alongside other indigenous Portuguese varieties delivering crunchy tropical fruit, pear, melon, lime and cool mineral notes, and even a signature effervescence! Fun fact: In Portugal's most popular white wine, Vinho Verde, Arinto is blended with Azal, Avesso, Loureiro and Trajadura. What a delicious mouthful!
