Details
Like a little slice of Tuscany landed in NSW, this savoury, and very rare (998 bottles were produced!) Sangiovese is a delight. It's loaded with red and blackberries, new leather, some classy oak, and dark earthen tannins to finish. It's only medium-bodied, deliberately made to be more savoury than big and bold, and feels so right, even at every turn.
For those who have spent a full weekend sitting on the couch with a few tinnies watching cars fly up and down hills with names like Skaife, Brock and Lowndes dominating Bathurst, it may be a surprise to you that on this same hallowed turf sits some incredibly good vines that produce equally incredible wine. Enter the Renzaglia family to the frame, where for years they have been plugging away quietly to produce some of the finest Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon around. Mark and Sandy Renzaglia had their first start in the world of wine when in 1982, Mark’s parents planted vines in Illinois, USA which at the time was a dry zone, so you weren’t permitted to make alcohol. Luckily, Sandy, being an Aussie, and Mark set up in Australia and planted their first vines in 1997 outside of Bathurst. Today their son, Sam, has brought in some flair with a new range called ‘di Renzo’ to sit alongside the classic ‘Bella Luna’ series. The Renzaglia family also pay respects to traditional land owners and to the land itself with their vineyard management.

Pairing guide
We just can’t get enough of this delicious sunny and satisfying NSW Sangiovese, which offers a fabulous array of taste sensations and food pairing possibilities. Slow-cooked tomato dishes are the name of the game here - bolognese and other ragu sauces, chilli con carne, lamb and tomato tagine and arrabbiata will all taste fantastic. Meat or veggie lasagna, pork and root vegetable stew, lamb shanks with gravy, portobello mushrooms with cheese, and gnocchi with sage and plenty of parmesan are also highly recommended.
