Details
Riesling always makes itself known by its strident acid profile, but here Rory has tamed it somewhat with a combination of old oak and skin contact. The resultant wine is awash with flavours of mandarin, lime leaf, quince and mint. Slightly salty, it is fresh and vibrant, with a wonderfully succulent texture. Glorious.

Gather round, wine lovers, and let me tell you a story about one of Australia's smallest and most loved vineyards and the people that tend it. Planted in the southern Tasmanian region of Birch's Bay in 1991, this postage-stamp of a vineyard could only be 30-35 rows of vines at most. But as they say, quality, not quantity. Planted by (now former) lawyer Dirk Meure, this piece of paradise contains vines of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Merlot. Managed without any chemical additions since it was planted, this historic vineyard is today managed by Dirk's nephew, Rory Duggan. The winery name is thus a portmanteau of their names. Rory has worked in vineyards across Europe, as well as obviously Tasmanian and spent some time in South Australia. The thread that runs through his work is a commitment to working the land himself, seeing the fruit ripen on the vine, and knowing exactly when to harvest. His winemaking is intuitive and relatively restrained. He adds no sulphur to any of these wines, instead letting time pass slowly and let the wines come into their own equilibrium. These wines, not yet well known, are some of the finest in Australia. We're thrilled to share them with you.

Pairing guide
Our passion for Riesling wines seemingly knows no bounds, and this stunningly well-balanced bottle from R. d’Meure is up there with the best we’ve tried in recent months. It’s a natural pairing for aromatic southeast Asian dishes - laksa, pad Thai and green curries, especially. We also loved it with a tuna poke bowl or Korean-style salads, as well as with breaded and fried white meats or crispy tofu, especially if featuring flavourful additions like ginger, chilli, coriander and lime.

Wine region
Coal River Valley, Australia
Coal River Valley is a wine region located in southern Tasmania, an hour drive from Hobart. There is a wave of high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir coming out of the region with waves of mainland wineries setting up in this truly premium region. The region receives a good amount of rainfall and has typical Tassie weather which endears it to a cool climate style. There is a lovely array of family wineries who have been in the region since the 1970s along with the influx of larger wineries who are snapping up land where possible. A region to watch as the growth and quality continues to rise.
