Details
We've long loved the 'standard' Tawny Port from Quinta do Noval, but this edition, with at least ten years of ageing, turns the flavour volume up multiple notches. It tastes of caramel, dates, deeply rich black cherry and spice with an inescapable chocolatey grainy thickness and enveloping width. It's a ginormous mouth party of a wine with unrivalled intensity and flavour depths.
Amongst the windy terraces of the picturesque Douro valley, is a very famous Port house, Quinta do Noval. Home to the world's most expensive and rarest of vintage Ports (a single plot on the property called 'Nacional') these wines command such incredibly high prices that a quick Google search will have you wondering what all the fuss is about. We can tell you this much, it's a bit of an open secret that anything made by 'Noval' is guaranteed to be absolutely outstanding. There's not an ugly one among them. What makes this estate famous? Well, history for a start. Great wines have been made in this place since the early 18th century, and that unwavering commitment to making the greatest of fortified wines (and more recently a bunch of sublime reds) has pretty much set the scene for centuries. We're just lucky to be able to experience this slice of vinous history!

Pairing guide
When it comes to fortified wines, few can hold a candle to a well-crafted tawny port. This deliciously rich and complex bottle from Quinta do Noval is an absolute stunner - mountains of flavour, intense character and a deeply satisfying finish make it a real treat, and it’s a fabulous bottle to crack open at dinner parties and gatherings of friends and food. Port is always a great choice with cheese, the more pungent and aged the better. It’s also great with charcuterie, salads featuring dried fruits or fresh fruits like figs, and it will also hit the high notes with spiced apple pie or creme brulee. Utterly irresistible!
