Details
This is a juicy, energetic rosé, made from a blend of Zinfandel, Grenache and Tempranillo. The vineyard is planted on heavy limestone soils, and the wine shows all of the aromatic complexity and textural presence that are the hallmarks of wines grown on such bedrock. Watermelon, lime, wild strawberry, a slight creaminess and then waves of invigorating acidity to close.
Matthew Rorick is a one-of-a-kind winemaker, growing and creating wines in California, and more recently Australia, that are atypical in expression and often from collection of curious, less well-known grape varieties such as Alvarelhao and Petite Sirah. He's spent time making wine in larger wineries in California such as Peter Michael and also abroad in New Zealand, South Africa and Chile. These experiences helped formed his philosophy, and coupled with his studies at UC Davis; Matthew created Forlorn Hope. His winery is in the Napa Valley, however the Queen of the Sierra range comes from the Sierra Foothills, further inland. All fruit comes from the steep limestone and schist slopes of Rorick Heritage Vineyard, and the wines are made organically, bottled unfiltered and free. Matthew does much of the work on his wines by himself, with an eagerness to express each site and vintage in bottle, without the use of adjustments, alterations or any type of manipulation. These are honest and pure California wines, and are uniformly delicious.

Pairing guide
Made from an uncommon blend of grapes, this stunning rosé is such a versatile food pairing wine. It’s going to taste fantastic alongside a wide range of salads, grilled chicken dishes, and rice and fish combos like paella and jambalaya. It’s also a great choice for a Christmas barbecue feast, piled high with prawns, scallops, fresh fish fillets, and meatier options like chicken skewers, kofta, and even bacon sandwiches. Nice!

Sierra Foothills, United States
The Sierra Foothills wine region is located in Northern California, known for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and exceptional wines. The region is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, with vineyards planted at elevations ranging from 350 to 1050m. This high-altitude growing region, combined with warm days and cool nights, produces grapes with concentrated flavours and balanced acidity. The Sierra Foothills is home to over 100 wineries, producing a diverse range of grape varieties such as Zinfandel, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as lesser-known varieties like Mourvèdre and Barbera. Many of the wineries in the Sierra Foothills are family-owned and operated, with a focus on sustainability and organic farming practices. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings at the rustic tasting rooms, tour the vineyards and wineries, and learn about the region's rich history dating back to the Gold Rush era.
