Details
Ok, so the name Cuvée Origine Vieilles Vignes doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but the vibrancy and the juiciness of the wine more than make up for it! It's made from old vines that produce a deep, plump, silky wine with plenty of smoky, juicy dark cherry and raspberry. The tannins are fine and persistent, and the wine finishes with crunchy acidity.

Beaujolais can be the most joyful, compelling and life-affirming of wines. Yet in the hands of masterful growers and makers, it can also be a wonderfully refined, long-lived wine that gives neighbouring Burgundy a run for its money. Pierre-Marie Chermette of Domaines Chermette is capable of producing both styles. This is why their wines can be found in many of France’s finest restaurants and why they remain one of the best regarded producers in the region Owners Pierre-Marie and Martine Chermette were part of the handful of pioneers who were the first in Beaujolais to use sustainable agricultural practices, shunning the use of any chemicals in the vineyard and encouraging as much life in the soil as possible. They harvest by hand when the grapes are fully ripe and the wines are made with minimal intervention: wild yeasts, minimal sulphur additions and no filtering if possible. The wines are wonderful expressions of the region, but don't dismiss them as wilting daisies! They have the stuffing to last in the cellar if so desired.

Pairing guide
Gamay is always a great choice of wine when it comes to food pairing, and this beautiful bottle from its homeland in France is a superb example of what this grape does best. This wine pairs very well with lighter meat-based dishes; think chicken thighs cooked simply with olive oil and pepper, turkey salads, chicken livers, or fennel sausages. It’s also great with seared tuna, and is commonly paired with charcuterie and cheese boards for an easy-drinking, good-living, and thoroughly French taste sensation!

Wine region
Beaujolais, France
Beaujolais is the land of fruity, easy-drinking reds! This wine region in France is known for its light-bodied, juicy Gamay wines that taste of cherries, red berries, and sometimes even bubblegum. With ten different Beaujolais crus to choose from, there's a wine for every taste. But the real party happens when Beaujolais Nouveau is released each November. This wine is made from freshly harvested grapes and is ready to drink just a few weeks later. So grab a bottle (or two) and let the celebrations begin! However, Beaujolais is also a hotbed for the natural wine movement and some of the industry's most pioneering names have come from this region and produce some exciting, complex wines.
