Details
This white is a blend of mostly Fernão Pires, the local white grape 'hero', blended with some Arinto for depth and body. It's a fresh, grassy, tropical white, with some Sauvignon Blanc overtones, but more delicate. There's a gentle florality to it, which is backed up by zesty acidity and wonderful persistence. Delicious stuff.

Pedro d'Orey is young estate, but with a great history! It's also the name of the founder, who was born and raised in the Alentejo region, in the south of Portugal. His birthplace, Herdade de Rio Frio, is the home of one of the largest continuous vineyards in the world, and was in fact planted by a friend of one of Pedro's ancestors. Safe to say that vines and wine are a big part of Pedro's history and life. Today, Pedro produces wine from both the Alentejo and also the Tejo region (slightly north and closer to Lisbon). The range is focussed on local varieties, made in an attractively modern style. The focus is on bright fruit but backed up with authentic character that shines through from varieties grown in their natural habitat. Sure, they have names that can be tricky to pronounce (Castelão and Fernão Pires, I'm looking at you), but they taste pretty good, so it's a win in our books!

Pairing guide
If you’re yet to fall in love with the myriad charms of Fernāo Pires wines, prepare to have your heart stolen from the very first sip. This Portuguese white wonder is renowned for its food-friendly character, and we loved how well it paired with dishes making the most of chicken breast cooked with lemon, pepper and plenty of fresh herbs, or with simple grilled fish and potato creations. Saltfish fritters, vegetable curries, turkey salads and seafood pasta recipes will also provide excellent pairings, and it’s just as good with green vegetables or salad dishes, pork chops with lemon and parsley, or soft cheeses and green olives. Delicious!
