Details
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but with this wine.. Please go right ahead and judge, and judge hard! This is pinocity in spades so make sure you find your biggest glass, possible even just pour straight into your mouth from the decanter if need be. There is a bright whack of whole bunch in this wine which comes out as lifted red fruit and a touch of smokey bacon wrapped capsicum. The wine shows poise while still having a bit of grip and somehow drinks like a malt milkshake with cherries on top.
Payten & Jones are one of the coolest and hippest wineries coming out of the Yarra Valley, the jewel in the Victorian wine producing crown. Behn Payten and Troy Jones are old schoolmates who grew up in the heart of the Yarra, in Healesville, with Behn growing up surrounded by vineyards with his dad involved in managing them and Troy, well I am sure that he joined them in the vineyard every now and again. Together, they are producing modern wines from the Yarra as well as living the dream of avoiding winter as much as possible by making wines in the north of Spain. The wines range from classical Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to multi-vintage blends of Sangiovese under their Leuconoe range as well as some delicious Vermouth. With creative labels and great personalities, Payten & Jones is easily lovable and are a fan favourite amongst the GPD crew. Come along for the ride and while enjoying a glass of their yummy booze, think of ways that you too can enjoy double summers!

Pairing guide
Sumptuous and bursting with a rich array of dark fruit flavours, this Pinot Noir is going to pair perfectly with a wide range of delicious ingredients. Juicy duck breast and cheaper cuts of lamb will work especially well, and it’s also a fantastic pairing for stewed tomatoes, rump steak, meat pies, and dishes of root vegetables and mushrooms. Seared tuna is a great option here, and it will also work very well with a borscht or other beetroot soup.
