Details
Muscat’s have long been a part of Australian drinking culture and it usually is the perfect accompaniment to any box of chocolates. The Patritti family are fine experts at delving into the world of Fortified wine and their Rare Muscat is a perfect example. This is like liquid gold with caramel, raisins and Christmas cake notes and the lovely bit is the taste will linger long after your last sip.
It isn’t too often you have wineries that are located in the suburban sprawl of a capital city around the world, and yes it may only be Adelaide, but Patritti Wines are located just 12 km from Adelaide CBD in Dover Gardens. Patritti’s story started with Giovanni who was part of the steady stream of migrants from Italy to Australia in the 1900s when he boarded a ship from Genoa to arrive in Port Adelaide in 1925. Just a few years later, Giovanni had some vines planted and was producing dry and fortified wines. Today, those original vineyards have been lost to the urban sprawl, however the winery is managing two historic urban vineyards nearby which includes the 1907 Marion Vineyard located right next to the Marion public swimming pool. Patritti have also established two vineyards in McLaren Vale and are producing a wide range of wines under six different labels. The commitment to the urban winery is highlighted by Friday nights at the winery which are well worth a visit!

Pairing guide
This delicious, honey-sweet, golden wine from Patritti is sure to raise plenty of smiles when you bring it to your dinner party, once the main course has been cleared away. While you don’t have to pair this wine with a sweet food (in fact, we really love sweet, fortified wines with super-salty dishes like salt fish cakes) This wine is going to pair really nicely with traditional fruit puddings, or something less common like a pumpkin pie. We love it with spiced fruit mince tarts (classics like apple and cinnamon work really well) It’s also a great match for strong after-dinner coffee, and will also go really well with strong blue cheeses if you’re opting for a cheese platter.
